£14.1 Million Raised At Record-Breaking Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon

Since the launch of the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in 2023 the event has raised £14.1 million whilst also showing support for ‘communities across the UK and the fight against MND’.

Sunday’s sold-out event might have also been a record-breaking event as it is believed to have seen the ‘largest participation of people connected to the MND community at a mass participation running event’.

On the continued impact of the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, the Operations Director at Run For All Tristan Batley-Kyle said: “From the very beginning, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon has been about bringing people together to make a difference.”

“Raising £14.1 million in just a few years is a powerful reflection of the community spirit that defines this event and the commitment of everyone who takes part.”

Last weekend’s event, similarly to the previous years, has helped to not only raise vital funds for community causes across the Uk but also to make a ‘significant contribution to the fight against motor neurone disease (MND)’.

Thousands of runners took to the streets of Leeds. to complete either of the 26.2‑ or 13.1‑mile courses, as they not only took on their own personal challenges but also raised money for causes that are important to them whilst also celebrating the ‘inspirational legacy of the late Rob Burrow CBE’.

At the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, which has now raised £14.1 million since its launch in 2023, participants fundraise for hundreds of charities each year as they often run in ‘memory of loved ones, in support of family and friends, or to champion causes that matter deeply to them’.

On supporting charitable causes and celebrating Rob Burrow’s legacy at the event, Batley-Kyle said: “Whether running, volunteering, cheering from the sidelines or fundraising for vital charities, people come together with a shared purpose – to support causes that truly matter while honouring Rob Burrow’s incredible legacy.”

The marathon is also a ‘vital platform for raising awareness of MND and supporting those affected by the disease’ which this year’s event believed to have ‘seen the largest participation of people connected to the MND community at a mass participation running event’.

However alongside the event’s ability to bring ‘visibility, solidarity and support to the cause’ it has also become an important and defining moment for Leeds as it allows all of the people involved in the race to create a joyful and united environment whilst showing support for Kevin Sinfield and Lindsay Burrow.

On the success and importance of the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, Batley-Kyle said: “We are hugely grateful to every runner, supporter and volunteer who has helped make the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon what it is today, and we look forward to continuing to raise money for fantastic charities through this event and many others across the country.”

Whilst the impact of the marathon leaves a lasting charitable legacy in Rob Burrow’s name, the event itself will continue to grow with its impact extending far beyond race day as it carries on raising funds and awareness for local charities and MND.
